A two-day workshop on “Keywords: A Vocabulary of Hong Kong Theory” will be held at the Centennial Campus of the University of Hong Kong on 7-8 June, 2016.  Each participant will present his/her selected keyword related to Hong Kong as theory in Cantonese and/or English.

Hong Kong is famously known as a city where China meets the West.  Its unique history as a city and a region, an imperial outpost, British colony and Special Administrative Region presents a very interesting and important issue.  The richness of this city, along with the complexity of its political, socio-economic, and cultural situation, has generated many projects of Hong Kong as a case study.  Over the past decade, however, Hong Kong has been facing many changes and challenges.  It is necessary to have a collaborative project to contribute new insights and imaginaries for Hong Kong at this important juncture.  The proposed project will formulate new keywords that can evoke specificities of Hong Kong experience without relying on clichéd terms, stock phrases, and borrowed concepts.
